Dave is a Skier.

Dave taught skiing during high school as a Michigan kid and progressed into coaching. He moved out to Utah in search of Western powder and to finish his education.

In 1982 he saw a CTEC being built – the Solitude Summit Chair—and was hooked. Two years later, he was working lift construction jobs with Alan Hepner where they started their lifelong friendship and future business partnerships.

Lift construction launched his career as Dave became independently licensed to sell Garaventa and CTEC chairlifts as well as the engineering, manufacturing, and installations in the Southern Hemisphere.

An interesting detail about Dave is he and his future wife Tracy Mountain biked 2000 miles, 50 miles a day on average while investigating the New Zealand ski industry.

David returned to the U.S. and was hired on in 2003 as construction manager to build the new Doppelmayr CTEC facility, after which he became Plant Manager. After the Doppelmayr merger, Dave made the decision to pursue Hilltrac, a hillside residential and commercial elevator system, full time. The first Hilltrac installation launched in 2006.

But as the winter seasons passed, Jan Leonard and Dave had concerns over how the legacy lifts were no longer supported and parts were becoming unavailable. They developed a shared vision of providing continued service through parts, modifications and retrofitting.

Skytrac was founded in 2008.

Outside of work and his family, Dave is also on the Board of Directors for Camp Kostopulos, who’s mission is “dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through recreation, education, and growth experiences.”
